We are looking for an Assistant Designated Safeguarding Lead to work within our highly motivated safeguarding team at the Academy.​​​​​​​

This is a great opportunity to join The Hastings Academy as a Safeguarding Specialist. In this critical role, you will help to ensure accurate and swift communication about our students between families, other professional bodies and the academy. Our aim to continue to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all our pupils that will allow them to thrive and access their learning in a positive way. In this role we need you to help us improve the life chances of our pupils and the community we serve, it's something we are hugely passionate about and hope you are too. 

To support this vital work, you will bring previous experience working in safeguarding. You will draw on your skills and experience to support the Vice Principal (Designated Safeguarding Lead) and the Social Inclusion Manager in delivering best safeguarding practice across the academy. 

Many of our staff work in a variety of different ways and we wouldn't want to lose our perfect candidate based on hours or working pattern. This role can be offered on a part time basis so please talk to us about any flexibility you might need. Whilst we can't promise to give you exactly what you require we will always happily consider what is possible for the role. 

High levels of confidentiality and resilience in handling emotionally challenging situations are essential.

  • To secure a complementary service to teachers and pastoral staff in school, addressing the needs of students who need support to overcome barriers to attendance, behaviour & mental health that impacts on their learning both inside and outside school, limiting their opportunity to achieve their full potential. 

  • To enable high quality, high profile contact with families of students, ensuring support is co- ordinated between school, families and outside agencies. 

  • To support the promotion of and safeguarding of the welfare of all the academy’s students. 

  • To support in training staff to ensure up to date safeguarding and child protection policies and practices are rigorously applied. 

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a working knowledge of human growth and development throughout the life span recognising the impact of relationships, psychological, socio-economic, environmental, physiological, factors on people’s lives. 
  • has experience of working directly with children and families. 
  • has experience of completing needs assessments upon which effective plans are based
  • has excellent communication skills
  • has high levels of enthusiasm and personal motivation
